Kenneth Lee Himelright

Aulander, NC - Kenneth Lee Himelright, age 74, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Kenneth was born on February 16, 1937 in Shenandoah County, VA. He was preceded in death by his father Christopher Stuart Himelright.

Survivors include his mother, Alice Payne of Strausburg, VA. His loving wife of 48 years, Rebecca Himelright of Aulander, NC. His two daughters Pamela K. Morrison and husband Chip of Summit Point, WV and Teresa Hildenbrand and husband, Jerry of Inwood, WV, his five grandchildren Travis, Nick, Luke, Trey and Hayden, his two great-grandchildren Jacob and Landon.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Ebenezer Assembly of God Church in Aulander, NC, with Rev. Tim Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 4, 2011 at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC, from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer Assembly of God Church in Aulander, NC, or Ahoskie Hospice Association.

Mr. Robert Edward Harrell

Jackson, NC - Mr. Robert Edward Harrell, age 81, of Jackson, died Monday, February 28, 2011 at Northampton Nursing and Rehab Center in Jackson, NC.

Mr. Harrell was born April 18, 1929 in Bertie County, NC, the son of the late William Thomas Harrell and Flora Parker Harrell.

He was a retired welder and a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Janice Barnes Harrell. His son, Bobby Harrell and his wife, Glenda. His daughter, Joy Harrell Bennett and her husband Mike. His grandson, Daniel Bennett and his wife Ashley. His step-grandson, Bryan Bennett and his step-great-granddaughter, Taylor Bennett.

Graveside services will be held, Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Futrell Family Cemetery, Jackson, NC, with Rev. Dan Earnhardt officiating.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Wednesday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and other times at the home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rehoboth United Methodist Church.

Mr. Augustus Roby Futrell

Conway, NC - Mr. Augustus Roby Futrell, age 76, of Conway, NC, died Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center in Emporia, VA.

Mr. Futrell was born July 25, 1934 in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late Adgie Futrell and Ethel Mulder Futrell. He was retired from the US Air Force.

Survivors include two brothers Earl Futrell of Conway, NC, and Robert Futrell of Warner Robbins, GA. Two sisters, Peggy Rook of Gaston, NC and Virginia Morgan Hall of Roxobel, NC. Also many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Friday, February 25, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Conway Cemetery in Conway, NC.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Thursday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.

Mr. Joseph N. Hull

Winton, NC - Mr. Joseph N. Hull, age 80, of Winton, NC, died Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC.

Mr. Hull was born January 9, 1931 in Nash county, NC, the son of the late Dallas Hull and Geneva Winfree Hull. He was also predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Clay Hull, who was a native of Enfield, NC.

Mr. Hull was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church and a US Army Veteran.

Survivors include his sons, Chris Hull and his wife Christy of Murfreesboro, NC, and Stan Hull of Raleigh, NC. His brother, Otis Hull of Nashville, NC and his sister Virginia Dew of Rocky Mount, NC. Four grandchildren, Alana, Katy, Krissy and Joseph. Also many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held, Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield, NC with Rev. Gilbert Crawford officiating.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC, Friday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and other times at the home of Chris and Christy Hull, 213 Benthall Bridge Road, Murfreesboro, NC.

Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society.

Mr. Paul Adkins

Enfield, NC – Mr. Paul Adkins, age 80, of Enfield, NC, died Sunday, February 20, 2011.

Mr. Adkins was born April 13, 1930 in Enfield, NC, the son of the late Charlie Adkins and Sissie Hart Adkins. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Davis Adkins and a grandson, Lance Mitchell.

Survivors include his daughter, Angie Mitchell. His brother Jake Adkins and his wife Emmalou. His sister-in-law, Louise Adkins. Several nieces and nephews including a special niece Sherry Smith.

Graveside services will be held, Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield, NC with Rev. Alvin Davis officiating.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Enfield, NC, Tuesday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.

Lou Ellen Brown

Lou Ellen Brown, 73, of Newport, died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the residence of her daughter in Hubert, with her children by her side.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Monday at Ahoskie Cemetery in Ahoskie with Rev. Jimmy Dale and Rev. Ralph Rawls officiating.

She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Brown Barnes of Lewiston, NC, Carol Brown Tilley of Hubert, NC, Lola Brown Rawls and husband, Ralph of Columbia, SC, and Tammy Lou Brown of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Joey Barnes and wife, Angie of Lewiston, NC, Melissa Ellis and husband, Jason, of Smithfield, Brian Williams of Murfreesboro, NC, SSgt David Williams, stationed at Seymour Johnson AFB, and Ashley Rawls Sparks and husband, Blake of Columbia, SC; great-grandchildren, Hailey Barnes and Drake Barnes, both of Lewiston, NC, Alice Williams and Lindsay Williams, both of Murfreesboro, NC, and Ashton Rawls Sparks of Columbia, SC.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Brown; brother, Luther Edward Crawford; sister, Mable Crawford; and parents, Joseph and Sally Crawford.

The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.

Mrs. Betty Whittaker Cross

Jackson, NC - Mrs. Betty Whittaker Cross, 78, of 200 Hampton Woods Complex, Jackson, NC, died February 19, 2011.

She was predeceased by her mother and father, Sue and Emmitt Whittaker, her husband, Vernie Cross and one grandson.

She is survived by one daughter, Terri Cross of Virginia Beach, Virginia, two sisters, Mrs. Sue Davis and Mrs. Martha Matthews of Virginia. She had two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Betty and Vernie will be held at a later date.

The family wishes to extend thanks to Continuum Hospice and Hampton Woods Complex.

Gaston, NC - Inas Elizabeth Miles, age 68, died February 19, 2011 at her home. Inas was born February 3, 1943 in Dillon, SC. The daughter of the late Liston Burdis Hyman and Kathleen Hayes Hyman.

Survivors include her husband Roger Anderson Miles of Gaston, NC. Her sisters, Lucille Hyman of Brunswick County, VA, Jeanette Hyman Kates of Gaston, NC, and Judy Ann Walker and her husband, Larry of Colonial Heights, VA, her brother Liston Junior Hyman and wife, Janice of Brunswick County, VA, her sons Claude Vaughan and wife, Linda of Rocky Mount, NC, Stewart Wayne Vaughan of Danville, VA, Austin Preston Vaughan and wife, Terry of Skippers, VA, and Jesse Alexander Vaughan of Gaston, NC, her step-daughter, Lottie Miles Fitts of Dolphin, VA, her step-son John Miles and his wife Margaret Miles of Roanoke Rapids, NC, her step-son Bobby Miles and wife Tammy of Gaston, NC. Also seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday, February 21, 2011 at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC from 7 until 8:30 PM.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Massey Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Clary & Vaughan Cemetery in Broadnax, VA.

Ruth Joyner O’Clair

Courtland, VA - Ruth Joyner O’Clair, age 90, of Courtland, VA, passed away February 15, 2011 at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin, VA, surrounded by her loving family.

Ruth was born July 25, 1920, in Southampton County, VA, the daughter of the late Willie Christian Joyner and Ida Johnson Joyner. She was also predeceased in death by a brother, Lawrence Joyner, a sister Virginia Smith, a granddaughter Donna Lynn O’Clair and a son-in-law Agrippa Sawyer.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and wife. Ruth and Leon were married on March 3, 1943 for 67 years.

Survivors include her husband Leon Joseph O’Clair of Courtland, VA, her three children, Donald J. "Buck" O’Clair and his wife Joan of Franklin, VA, her two daughters Sandra O. Sawyer and Kathy O. Camp of Courtland, VA, her three grandchildren Angel R. Lowe of Richmond, VA, Dr. Brandon C. Lowe of Blacksburg, VA and Trent D. Lowe of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and her sister Maggie J. Pope of Capron, VA. Also many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 18, 2011 in the Chapel of Wright Funeral Home at 2:00 PM with Father Carl, Father Charles and Rev. Jim Hyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Springs Cemetery in Franklin, VA.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at Wright Funeral Home in Franklin, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Catholic Church or the charity of your choice.

Mr. Virgil Shell Bazemore

Potecasi, NC - Mr. Virgil Shell Bazemore, age 90, of Potecaisi, NC, died Thursday, February 10, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Bazemore was born June 18, 1920 in Martin County, NC, the son of the late Steven Edward Bazemore and Betty Burkett Bazemore. He lived most of his younger years in Bertie County, NC. He started to work at age 17 and worked until he was 78 years old.

He worked for E.B. Lassiter Lumber Company, Rezinal, and for the last ten years of working was with his son Wayne. He was a member of Potecasi Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Vaughan Bazemore. His sons, Wayne Bazemore and his wife, Carolyn of Winton, NC, and Steven Bazemore and his wife, Donna of Milwaukee, NC. Two grandchildren, Brittany Bazemore and Matthew Bazemore. Also several special nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Potecasi Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Travis Henderson and Rev. Bob Deacon officiating.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Saturday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and other times at the home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Potecasi Baptist Church.
