How Does Hair Removal Cream Work?

How To Use Hair Removal Cream On Your Private Parts - Luxe Luminous (1)

Hair removal creams are a little weird. You just smear it on, wait a little while, and off comes the hair. How does that work? It doesn’t seem quite natural.

Let’s go over how this is possible.

Keratin makes up 65-95% of your hair structure by weight and is what gives it its strength.

Thioglycolic acid (TGA) is the most commonly used active ingredient in hair removal creams.

The TGA breaks down the structure of the keratin to weaken and dissolve the hair. When that happens, the hair can be easily wiped away from its follicle, just below the skin’s surface.

The top layer of your skin also contains keratin, which is why you should never leave a hair removal cream on for longer than the maximum time on the product instructions. If you leave it on too long, you can damage your skin.

Great. Be careful out there!

How To Use Hair Removal Cream On Your Private Parts

Important note: Hair removal cream is for EXTERNAL USE ONLY.

0 – Read the instructions!

Before you start, read the instructions for your specific removal cream. This is just a general guide, and your specific cream may have additional steps that need to be followed.

1 – Do a test patch.

Apply the hair removal cream to a small, non-sensitive area, like your arm or thigh, and wait 24 hours to see if the cream causes excessive redness, pain, or any type of adverse reaction. If it does, then don’t use it.

2 – Trim.

Take a pair of scissors and trim your hair before applying the cream.

3 – Petroleum Jelly (optional).

Now, this step is optional and will depend on how much hair you are removing. If you are just doing your bikini line, then you don’t have to worry about it.

If you are planning to remove it all, then this is a precautionary step to make sure you don’t get the hair removal cream inside. Use petroleum jelly to create a barrier over your labia and vag opening.

Those are the last places you want to get hair removal cream.

4 – Apply.

Apply an even layer of hair removal cream on the pubic region, being careful to avoid your ‘inner bits’. Do not rub it in.

5 – Wash your hands.

Wash your hands immediately after applying.

6 – Wait the Appropriate Time

Most hair removal creams work pretty much the same way, but read the instructions as to how long to leave it on. It may be anywhere from 3 to 10 minutes. But never leave hair removal cream on for more than the maximum recommended time for that product.

7 – Rinse.

Jump into the shower and use lukewarm water to rinse, and a washcloth to help remove the hair. Your hair should fall right off as you are rinsing. If it doesn’t – WAIT 24 HOURS before you try again.

What is the Best Way to Remove Hair From Your Private Parts?

There are different ways to remove hair ‘down there’. Shaving, epilating, cold wax strips, and hair removal creams are all DIY methods you can do at home.

When it comes down to the best method to remove hair from private parts, it really is just a matter of personal preference.

Shaving

this is probably the most cost-effective method but it also comes with its fair share of drawbacks. Just like shaving your legs, you can get nicks or cuts, razor burn, and chafing.

It can also get itchy as the hair grows back, and it doesn’t last very long. Be prepared for regularly scheduled maintenance.

A couple of things that will help you to get a smoother, less irritable shave is a sharp razor and a good shaving cream or gel.

Cold Wax Strips

The biggest negative of waxing is the fact that it hurts! In general, waxing causes less irritation (aside from initial pain) and lasts longer, but the pain involved is not for everyone.

It’s often described as being slapped really hard if you have a sunburn. On the legs, maybe… but down there? That area is a LOT more sensitive than your legs.

If you are one of the brave and intrepid here are a few you might want to try…

Hair Removal Creams

Hair removal creams are painless, quick, and easy to use. The burning, irritating formulas that usually come to mind when you think of hair removal creams, are a thing of the past.

Modern hair removal creams are filled with hydrating ingredients that leave you with smooth skin.

While the manufacturers have come a long way from the strong, chemical odor of the first hair removal creams, they do still generally have quite a strong scent. And because it removes hair from just below the skin’s surface (not from the root) and it will last longer than shaving, you will have much faster regrowth than if you are waxing.

Take Away

Hair Removal creams are a quick and easy way to remove hair ‘down there’. With our handy tips, now you know how to use a hair removal cream on private parts.

Just remember to do a test patch first, never leave hair removal cream on for more than the maximum time on the product directions and you are good to go!
