Greensboro has a long and fascinating history with many ties to old American history. The town was founded in 1808 as Greensboro and was named after the American Revolutionary War hero, Major General Nathanial Green. The town gained a large population due to the large textile plants that popped up in the late 1800s.

As change in the South began in the 1960s with the Civil Rights Movement, Greensboro became a leader in the cause for human equality. Jesse Jackson held several nonviolent protests in Greensboro, and it was one of the first cities in the South to hold these types of rallies.
